Senator Kim Pate reminded the Federal government that the Missing Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Report calls for a basic income. “The presence of guaranteed livable income in the National Action Plan emphasizes the connection between economic marginalization, violence, and the ongoing legacy of colonialism in Canada,” said Senator Pate. Recommendation 4.5: “We call upon all governments to establish a guaranteed annual livable income for all Canadians, including Indigenous Peoples, to meet all their social and economic needs. This income must take into account diverse needs, realities, and geographic locations.”
